Friday
4 July
Last night, as we sailed
from Jura, the winds rose to force 7, strong enough to make Philip's
lenses jump out of his glasses! We eventually moored off Iona at
4 am. Today, thankfully, we had lighter winds (force 3) as we sailed
past Staffa and saw the spectacular basalt organ pipes of Fingal's
Cave. Today we caught sight of many Hebridean islands - Mull, Coll,
Muck, Eigg,Rum and Skye - and wished we had time to explore them
properly. At 9 pm we tied up in Mallaig harbour, just across the
water from Skye, and dashed up the hill for a pint of McEwans Here
Philip left to catch the train for Glasgow and home, while, after
topping up the provisions and diesel, Imram continued via the Kyle
of Lochalsh to Portree, Isle of Skye.
Imram onboard
