Thursday 26 June 10.00 Scilly Isles
St Marys, Scilly
Isles
We arrived here at 10.00 on Wednesday after 42 hours spent crossing
from St
Malo in conditions that were very calm most of the time. Occasionally
there
was a breeze and we made 7-8 knots under sail but more often we
had to use
the motor.
Yesterday we visited St Marys, walking round the Garrison in the
morning
before a lunch of pasty and chips. The afternoon we spent on Penninis
Head
scrambling over the impressive rough granite rocks. Of course we
had to
stop for an afternoon tea of scones, jam, clotted cream and cups
of tea..
The evening was spent on minor repairs before Rob, Philip and Peter
went
ashore to sample the local beer in The Mermaid and the Atlantic
Hotel. Now
we are moored off Tresco, the second largest of the Scilly Isles,
waiting
for Rob, Lisa and Barbara to appear in the zodiac to disembark and
visit
Tresco Abbey Gardens.
